Jamila is taking you on an amazing journey with A Cat named Smiley. Born and raised in Jazz Land, east of New Orleans from a litter of ten. Smiley’s been around the block a few times. He’s experienced a lot and has the t-shirt and nine lives to prove it... four remaining. Yet, one thing about Smiley, he’s an overcomer who never looses his substantially charming, yet contagious smile... even when faced with the infamous COVID19.
As you know, New Orleans has seen its share of adversity and March 2020’s devastating interruption to a pandemic that swept not only our city, but the entire world was more than enough reason for an Orleans frisky feline to hit the scenes with nothing short of a smile. It will change the world.
As the story unfolds, Artist, Jamila Pennington shares her latest design of Smiley, called Nola Beginnings. The artwork displays the charming cat with an infectious smile positioned in a currently abandoned amusement park severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Standing in the center of ruins and decay, Smiley’ contagious smile brings life and light in the midst of what seems to be disarray, yet everyone exhibits joyous smiles. Even the fallen decaying statue has a reason to smile.
The hummingbirds flocking around Smiley signifies harmony, a tone. The bird standing on his head is receiving good news. Birds are accustomed to being fed. As for hummingbirds, they are always in search of sweet nectar. Their presence is symbolic for seeking something sweet and finding good in everything, despite the circumstances.
The season of the hummingbirds is spring, which is a season of transformation.
The blooming sunny yellow Daffodils represent the month of March and is associated with springtime, new beginnings and rebirth.
During a season of social distancing and being asked to stay inside to help reduce the curve, has created an opportunity for self care and total wellness. Some of the most common meanings for the daffodil flower are:
- Renewal and Vitality
- Awareness and Inner Reflection
Life and share the same sweetness to those around you. “The sweetest nectar is within!”
