A common and traditional way of community socialization is sitting on the stoop and sitting on the front porch. A porch is a covered shelter projecting in front of the entrance of a home.
Stoops and porches are a connection to the neighborhood. They provide shelter for a listening ear to the street, a watchful eye over the kids, playing games and a simple way to enjoy the spring blooms and summer breeze.
This season of social distancing, self-monitoring, quarantining and isolation has allotted us time to connect with God. Though seen in the natural as an interruption, this season has created an opportunity for connecting and reflecting spiritually.
Sitting on the stoop or porch has brought back fond memories that we barely have had time to enjoy. Adjusting to the “new normal” has returned us back to the basics of how we spend our time. Growing in faith, a message of hope, and the building of strength and courage as we conquer our anxieties and fears, is what we all yearn for. The longing for something more, something omnipresent, something powerful and full of hope and peace has led us back to the Word of God.
The Holy Bible is our stoop and our porch. It’s our shelter and protection in the time of storm.
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Psalm 91:4 (NLT)
